How the open-source ecosystem sustains

#Draft

There are three main marketing models for software services.

1. Surveillance Capitalism: Monetization of user data
2. Ad Revenue: Presenting advertisements
3. Subscription: Payment for the service infrastructure
4. Self-hosting: If the users don't want the infrastructure, they can host it for themselves

Open source software generally goes with options 3 and 4. With self-hosting, there is no longer the argument of having to run the infrastructure. This also makes it easier for everyone to access essential software.
